PMP signed again for two season with new MTB Team Gewiss-Bianchi
There is no more Julien Absalon, the Olympic champion leader of the 2006 MTB season with the Bianchi team, and French, European and World Champion. The Gewiss-Bianchi team changes and decides to bet on a new group. New season means new bet, based on the awareness that the team is competitive and greatly enthusiastic.
Massimo Ghirotto, team manager, will deal with a team made of “baby bikers” with an average age of 22 years. Four of the nine Gewiss-Bianchi riders, coming from five nations, are at their first season with the Celeste jersey: Martin Kraler (Austria), Stephane Tempier (France, Under 23), fourteen-year-old Emanuel Simoncini (Italy) and the young girl Pia Sundstedt (Finland). The confirmed athletes are Emil Lindgren (Sweden) and the “eldest”, Thomas Dietsch (1974). The breeding-ground is completed by the following Italian riders: Cristian Cominelli (coming from off road, at his first year with U23), Elia Silvestri (returning from his excellent performance at the Cycle cross World Championships) and Gabriele Angelini.
The team will take part in all the World Cup events (cross country and marathon) and in the other main events of this season.
January 29 2007- Vervecken takes third world title
About 30,000 spectators witnessed a tumultuous world championship at the "Domenico Savio" park in Hooglede-Gits. Defending world champion Erwin Vervecken extended his world title this afternoon. After taking third in 1994, he managed five more podium results since then and now is on top of the world again. "It was a very, very special race as so many things happened; to me, it was just like a movie or a dream," Vervecken said. With this win, the 34-year-old Belgian makes up for a troubled season where he grabbed only one major victory at the World Cup in Hofstade. He has again proved himself a great championship rider. "I don't like that term, but I can understand it; I don't win a lot, but I can't help it that the favourites often fail at the championships," Vervecken said.
Vervecken won riding on Ridley bike, with 4za wheel and PMP hubs.
